Directions: Use resources including books and the links on the right side of this page to answer the following questions about rain forests.

1.What is the climate like?

In the rain forest the tempeture is hot and rainy every day.

2. How does the water cycle affect the ecosystem?

In the rainfoest the water cycle is very active

.
3. How does the carbon dioxide-oxygen cycle affect the ecosystem?

The carbon dioxide-oxygen cycle is very active in the rainforest.  Animals breath out carbon doixide and plants breath out oxygen .

4.How does the nitrogen cycle affect the ecosystem?

In the nitrogen cycle when animals die nitrogen goes to other plants and animals.

5. Identify the life cycle of an animal.

A frog starts as an egg, then it grows into a tadpole, then larva, and last adult.

6. Identify the life cycle of a plant.

An orchid starts as a seed, then it sprouts, and finally it grows into a orchid with flowers.

7. Identify the adaptations of an animal and tell why they are important.

A Jackson's chameleon has a long tail to grip branches.  It is like an extra foot, to help keep the chamelon grip firmly.  It has rows of sharp teeth attached to the front edge of each jaw

8. Identify the adaptations of a plant and tell why it is important.

Trees that make the understory  have wide leaves so that water from the heavy rainstorms can drip off.  The trees on the understory are smaller than the other trees.

9. Identify two food chains in your ecosystem. See the example below.

fig tree>snail>python

lilly pilli>possum>tailed quail

grass> lizard>frog>racoons
